Obituary

Patricia Ruth (Patty) Spain, 86 of Poplar Bluff, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Patty was born on June 28, 1932 in Poplar Bluff, the daughter of Samuel Clarence and Dessie Love (Head) Smith. She married Jerrel Max Spain on April 28,1951 in Poplar Bluff. Together they shared over forty-four years of marriage. He adored her and her cooking, frequently doting on her meals before he passed on February 11, 1996.

Patty was one of the oldest members of First Christian Church in Poplar Bluff, where she served faithfully. Patty worked at the Daily American Republic in the advertising department prior to becoming a full time homemaker and raising her children.

Patty thoroughly enjoyed singing and her beautiful voice graced many church services, weddings and funerals throughout the years. Patty spent most of her time reading and would typically read three to four books per week, mysteries were always her favorite. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and was named the “Queen of QVC” by her grandchildren, who always knew where their birthday gifts were coming from.

Patty’s greatest joy in life was her family with whom she loved to spend time. She was always bragging on them and their accomplishments, no matter how big or small.  She often cooked for them and celebrated them on their special days, never forgetting their birthdays, anniversaries and every holiday in between.

Survivors include, three children, Debbie (Jr.) Stacy of Poplar Bluff, Michael Spain of Wappapello and Sally (Mike) Clark of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren, Matt (Stacy) Stacy of Poplar Bluff, Sara (Darrin) Cole of Poplar Bluff, Justin Spain of Poplar Bluff, Josh (Kristen) Spain of Poplar Bluff, Holly (Jacob) Plunkett of Wappapello, Zachary (Alyssa) Clark of Poplar Bluff, Katlyn (Zach) Elsworth of Poplar Bluff; twelve great-grandchildren, Logan Kennedy, Megan Stacy, Mattilyn Stacy, Ava Stacy, Emmy Kate Cole, Max Henry Cole, Jerren Spain, Journey Spain, Jaxton Spain, Abbie Spain, Tobias Clark and Tanner Wade Clark.
